I started medical school at the University of Western Australia (UWA)  in 1996, commencing Anaesthesia training at Oxford in 2005, then in NSW (2006-2010). I did further Aeromedical retrieval fellowship training. Then a Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia fellowship in 2011 at Harefield (Royal Brompton NHS Trust). On completion I returned to Western Australia to start my practice as a Specialist Anaesthesiologist in late 2011.

In 2012, having a successful private practice I started two educational charities.

Bullying, harassment, and discrimination while working as a doctor has driven me out of medicine. The discrimination has made me unemployable as a Specialist Anaesthesiologist or in any related field in Australia and globally.

SUMMARY


In 2013, I started facing severe harassment in WA. So much that by 2014 I reduced my workload and started flying monthly to Melbourne to work and looking for work interstate and overseas. #bullying

In 2014 after a group of colleagues advised and administered an iron infusion, I was singled out, surprisingly suspended. The group iron infusion had been was weaponized and I was told by SJGHC this “is enough” (i.e. they had collected the dirt to they wanted to drive me out of Medicine) and was the “end of your (my) career” and reported to the regulator (AHPRA).  #harassment

I was placed under the duress of an investigation during which I was restricted twice for the single iron infusion event. #doublejeopardy  Despite zero evidence of wrongdoing or any significant health issue, instead of "iron deficiency anemia" false aspersions were cast with the AHPRA website publication of “conditions for personal health.” This false claim led to effectively a lifetime international ban on my ability to practice and gain any reasonable employment. #discrimination 

On trying to seek a remedy from AHPRA, in May 2016, the duress of an investigation and conditions were imposed while the perpetrators waited to “seek confirmation that I would not develop a health impairment.” So they knew there was nothing wrong with my health but they were hoping to harass me to the point where they could get some evidence to justify their harassment & discrimination.  #malicious  #torture #intentional

In May 2016 when I was desperately trying to survive as an Anaesthesiologist, a predatory senior male Anaesthesiologist promising to offer work tried to sexually harass me in his “office” at 10 am in the morning. He was married with kids. The police termed it indecent assault and he retired from practice avoiding further investigation by the HCC in NSW. I let it go as it was too traumatizing to deal with on top of everything else that had happened to me. #MeToo 

The harassment worsened with nurses and doctors “joking” of my death at Osborne Park (public) Hospital in WA in 2016. I was openly humiliated and harassed by the head of the Department of Anaesthesia. My complaints led to worsened rostering with financial penalties. #outrageous #unacceptable

After worsening workplace harassment and ongoing problems trying to find safe work like I had prior to the discrimination, in late 2017 I filed my complaints with the Australian Human Rights Commission. In 2018 I started a Masters in Law (LLM) at the University of Melbourne. 

In early 2018, I filed my Human Rights cases in the Australian courts to seek justice (v St John of God Healthcare, AHPRA, Healthscope Operations Ltd). There has been undue delay.  #HumanRights

My training (16yrs incl 6yrs of medical school) involved working hard,  enduring harassment during training, studying long hours, weekends, nightshifts, paying for my own education from measly registrar wages and huge personal sacrifices. 

The toxic environment in WA was exhausting, time-consuming and eventually drove me to the group iron (vitamin) infusion event where I received an iron infusion with the insistence and help of senior colleagues to have an iron infusion at work. 

The “social network” of local doctors and lawyers, conspired and colluded with their friends at the regulators (AHPRA) office (malfeasance in public office) to harass me with an indefinite investigation into my health hoping to seek confirmation that I would develop a health impairment. #torture (ie to gather evidence). 

In 2015, the same network of perpetrators had organized restricted work at a small public hospital - Osborne Park hospital. I was rostered small amounts of work at lower wages. No freedom, no career progression or other prospects. Just enough hoping to keep me quite. #modernslavery

In 2017, I was called in and given temporary hospital accreditation on two occasions within minutes for emergency neurosurgical and pediatric lists but then denied permanent accreditation at the same Healthscope and Ramsay hospitals despite successful outcomes. #modernslavery #discrimination

To are I have tried multiple avenues for redress but they are all ineffective or obstructive. I have been to the Legal Practice Board of WA, the Financial Ombudsman Services, Fair Work Commission, National Health Practitioner and Privacy Ombudsman, the Privacy Commissioner and multiple lawyers prior to filing myself. It’s been a long hard 6yrs. I was told to be intimidated by the size/wealth of the wrongdoers & “people with personal interests to protect”. No doubt the medicolegal “club” is wealthy and powerful but that should allow them to destroy people’s lives without accountability. 

In the Federal Court of Australia, as many of you may have seen from my LinkedIn posts I have faced multiple adjournments, change in judge and undue delay as a self-represented litigant. I have already paid out $200K (despite the loss of income) and can’t afford further legal fees myself.
