Legal Representation for Asylum-Seeking Family
Tax deductible
Hi, my name is Pastor Robin from Christ Lutheran Church, and along with friends at Vine Street Community Church, Edgehill UMC, and Tennessee Immigrant Refugee Rights Coalition, we're raising money to support a Congolese asylum-seeking family to receive legal representation.
This family of five includes a mom and her four children, ranging in ages from 11 to 17. Unlike many Congolese migrants to the US, they arrived seeking asylum. They have a good case, but need to navigate our court system to remain safely in our country. Asylum cases are handled in civil court, meaning that they have no right to legal representation. However, according to the National Immigrant Justice Center, families with legal representation are five times more likely to have their asylum cases approved.
This family is fleeing extreme circumstances, and they need our help to remain here safely. While we have found them housing and access to food, the next step to ensuring a safe and stable situation for this family is to secure this legal representation.
For the privacy of this family, we are currently unable to share their names and details of their situation. All the money donated to this GoFundMe goes first to Edgehill UMC, because they have a designated fund for this family. 100% of this fund will be used for legal fees incurred by the family.
