Defense Fund for Kelly Lehman
Imagine seeing a terrified animal being chased - with no chance of escape - while surrounded by cheering, jeering crowds. Would you stand by and watch the animal suffer, or would you take action for the tortured animal?
On September 22nd 2015, local animal advocate Kelly Lehman (aka Kahdashia Adams via Facebook) did the latter. She simply stepped into the ring where the abuse was occurring to stand up and state, clearly and unequivocally, that the abuse of ANY animal is wrong. For simply speaking out at Ephrata Fair's annual pig chase, she was arrested.
Kelly is now facing serious charges (misdemeanor III) of up to one year in jail. She should have been thanked and awarded a medal for her courage, not charged with disorderly conduct!
To defend against these unlawful charges and to help ensure that local authorities do not file similar frivolous charges in the future against peaceful activists, Kelly needs good legal representation. She has hired a reputable lawyer, but the legal costs are mounting - the retainer only is $3,000, and the total costs are expected to be thousands more.
Please give what you can, and please share this fundraiser.

NOTE: Our first fundraiser through Youcaring.com, which does not charge fees for its pages, was deleted because Youcaring does not allow fundraisers for legal representation. We raised $890 from that fundraiser (not including fees charged from the payment providers, which vary and are assessed by all sites) and also have $45 in cash donations. We are keeping track of all donations. Thank you!
