Get A LEG UP for Lana

Help Lana Get a New Prosthetic Leg!

In 2011, Lana - my mom & G's Nana - had a massive cardiac arrest. She wasn't given the next day to live. But miracuously, she did.

After 2 weeks on ECMO to save her heart, she developed a pressure sore on her left heel. Sadly, that sore turned dangerous and she had to have her leg amputated from the shin down. The amputation was the day after Thanksgiving 2011 - a Black Friday for us indeed. Not because you get a TV for cheap, but that the darkness that encompassed our family was overwhelming.

We thought this could be the end of the Lana we all knew. BUT SHE PERSISTED!

She learned how to walk without her left leg and eventually got a prosthetic leg she fondly named "Roxy". Before we knew it, she was zooming around taking her granddaughter to school and gymnastics. She was back to the Mom, Lana, Nana we all knew...

However, things turned for the worse on Memorial Day 2017.  Her granddaughter and friend asked for popsicles in the kitchen, and Nana --of course --obliged. Unfortunately, the girls were in soaking wet bathing suits. And when Lana turned away from the fridge, she slipped on the wet floor - BREAKING HER FEMUR ON HER BAD LEG.

She now has a rod in her femur above her prosthetic - needless to say, she's half bionic.

Her endurance and a very special caregiver (my Dad) have helped her recover quickly. But the sad part is that due to the past years of hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, her prosthetic will not be covered completely and the current prosthetic no longer fits her leg with the insertion of the rod.

Which means she needs a new leg.

Usually this time of year, we walk for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk...but this year we can't, because of her leg. Her team has raised money for the AHA annually but this year, we are asking for donations to help her get a new leg so she can be back on her feet again in time for next year's Heart Walk.

Any donation is appreciated. Even it's a dollar - it's one dollar closer for Lana to be able to walk with G again.

Even if you can't donate, no worries, please send your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the love!

***This is her current prosthetic - If you notice the colorful prosthetic leg cover, you will notice underneath the cover -it's fairly ragged and ready for retirement.
