Leicester Hospitals Charity As A Thank You
Our Mum also known as Trace has a chronic lung condition called Bronchiectasis.
Bronchiectasis is thought to be uncommon. It's estimated around 1 in every 100 adults in the UK have the condition. Mum developed this condition from birth due to being born with double Pneumonia.
For the past 20 years mum has been treated by the amazing team at Bronchiectasis and Cystic Fibrosis Team in Ward 16 at Glenfield Hospital.
The support mum and we as a family have received over the years has been phenomenal.
Over the years mum has been slowly deteriorating, to a point she is now either immune or developed allergies to prescribed treatment medications.
During 2023 mum spent many occasions on home intravenous medication administered to her by all of her family. We had an awful 2 week period in September where mum spent some time in her own side room at Glenfield Hospital. This led to us finding out from a CT scan that her lungs have developed so much infection that a significant area of her lungs have closed down and stopped working. Due to her issues with medication she has now been referred to have a Double Lung Transplant at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.
Lung Transplants are a very rare in the UK at this time. In 2022/23, 85 of the total 101 lung transplant procedures in the United Kingdom were carried out on patients living in England. Scotland had seven lung transplantations carried out, with two also carried out in Northern Ireland, and six in Wales.
Mum is currently now having regular intravenous treatment at home with this being one of the only medications currently helping her manage the condition. Along side this, mum is now on home oxygen throughout the day. Without the support of the amazing staff at Glenfield this may of not even been a possible.
As a family we want to say a huge thank you to the Bronchiectasis and Cystic Fibrosis Team in Ward 16 at Glenfield Hospital. As well as the Physiotherapists based in this team!
We have decided as a family that Doug ( Tracy’s Husband & Our Dad) Her 3 Children, Bradley, Paige and Imogen are all going to climb Mount Snowdon in Wales on the 20th April 2024. Along with anyone else who wishes to join us! To raise as much money as we can for Leicester Hospital Charity to support more families in Leicester have as amazing care and support as we have seen over the years from all the staff at Glenfield Hospital!
We are raising money in aid of Leicester Hospitals Charity and we appreciate times are very tough at the moment for everyone. But if you could spare anything to help raise some money for Leicester Hospital Charity we would be extremely grateful.
