Leigh McQuat’s recovery from a rare condition
Donation protected
Hey, My name is Faz and i am starting this fundraiser to help a fellow colleague of mine Leigh McQuat who was recently diagnosed with a rare disease that only one in every two million people get called goodpasture syndrome. Goodpasture syndrome is an auto immune disease where your body mistakenly produces antibodies that attack and damage the lining of lungs and kidney. On Friday January 6th, leigh was working with us over at a camp job in sudbury. We noticed him looking very pale and he was saying how fatigued he felt out of the blue. His legs felt heavy so we sat him down in the sea can and he took off his boots and rolled up his coveralls. His legs feet and ankles were swollen heavily. He saw the nurse that evening for some check ups.
Blood was found in his urine and his blood pressure tested extremely high. The following day he was sent to Timmins hospital for further testing. He began showing worse symptoms of swelling of entire body, urinating and coughing up blood. They found blood in lungs and of course that led to pneumonia for starters. His kidneys completely failed shortly after. A biopsy was done and 4 pieces of his kidney were taken for samples sent to Toronto. After a week of x rays and cat scans, they air lifted him to St Mikes Hospital in Toronto for more specialized treatment. He arrived there on the 13th. He is now undergoing his second of 5 blood transfusions where they extract the poison from the blood with plasma and then put it back in his body.
Long road to recovery will or may involven: oxygen ventilator, dialysis, on going blood transfusions and potential kidney transplant. Unknown how long he will be in hospital at this point so if we can contribute even just a little to this Brother to help him cover some expenses that we all have
leigh McQuat is a loving father and a husband.
he works as an ironworker for local 721.
please donate generously every bit counts!!
