Leilani Campos -2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee

Thanks to all for helping Leilani reach the bee! This year proved to be truly historic with Scripps crowning 8 champions for the first time and unveiling a beautiful, new trophy.  Leilani spelled “miasma” correctly in Round 2 , however, was eliminated in Round 3 (“quintessence”).  Despite the outcome, she had an epic week and made memories that she will cherish forever.

Leilani was the only speller to have the privilege of leading the Bee Week Opening Ceremony this year.  The event opened with a video highlighting Leilani’s journey to the bee.  At the end of the segment, Leilani appeared on stage to give the opening statements and to introduce the Bee Week emcee, Jon Petz. Later on, Leilani stood alongside pronouncer Dr. Jacques Bailly, associate pronouncer Dr. Brian Seitsema, executive director Paige Kimble, and former champions to light the Scripps National Spelling Bee emblem.
