Lembongan Surf Food Relief Fund
Donation protected
I am currently quarantined on the island of Nusa Lembongan, Indonesia. Since the COVID crisis has crippled the world this island was caught in it's whirlwind. I am currently buying rice, eggs, noodles and cooking oil for local people affected by this crisis. Much like the rest of the world this island has been cut off. The economy here is based on tourism, specifically surfing and scuba diving. The island has been shut to foreigners for over a month. Without visitors the surf schools have closed leaving no income for the instructors with literally no work. Dive schools as well are all closed. The hotels and homestays are empty. Stores are closed and people went almost overnight from being employed to having no way to support themselves or their families. I of course understand the whole world finds itself in a similar situation. Here specifically though a fundamental difference that makes the ability to generate real change is the mere cost of living. Unlike the western world here in Lembongan $20 USD can make a significant difference for a small family. My hope is that with small donations of $10-$25 I can start to buy more and more food for more and more families. I am right now concerned with the people directly affected in the surf industry but of course will give food to any family here that needs it. I have a good and strong relationship with the local surf community here and would like to feed as many of their families and friends as possible. Literally no donation would be too small (or too big). I plan to buy the food in person and deliver it myself to one family at a time. I have never done anything like this before but am already doing it so hope to simply be able to do it for a larger amount of people than just what I can personally afford. I realize that worst case no one contributes and the situation will be no worse than before. However the possibility of helping is endless! The people of this island are kind and good people. To anyone that can help my most sincere thanks. Pardon the lack of professional write up ability but the important part here is feeding the people of this island not my petitioning skills.
