Lemon Tree Recycling Fundraiser
Donation protected
Who We Are:
In July 2020, during the midst of COVID, Lacy and her son, Andrew, were eating lunch in her kitchen. They were looking for inspiration, conversing over some of their community's problems. Lacy had brought up one of the more sore subjects of the Parish- glass recycling. When wondering why there were no options, she said that they should begin recycling glass for the community themselves. Andrew agreed and said, "let's make it happen". And St. Tammany's first glass recycling efforts were born.
Lemon Tree has been St. Tammany's only glass recycling service since. Over the last two years, Lemon Tree has garnered the support of the community by working with local municipalities and non-profits, bringing city-wide glass recycling events to the residents of Mandeville and Abita Springs. Since October 2020, Lemon Tree has processed over 71, 700 lbs of glass from otherwise having ended up directly in a landfill.
Lemon Tree’s vision is to bring to St. Tammany a comprehensive, local, recycling solution.
Our Goal:
At present, our Parish’s recycling options are convoluted (to say the least). However, this is true across the board for Louisiana and America. This country does not make it easy for anyone to recycle with assurance. Because of the community's ongoing desire for a recycling solution, our goals are that:
- We want to make it easy by beginning a new service for everyone to be able to participate in.
- We plan to make it possible for your household to contribute to a greener St. Tammany by having the ability to recycle your household's glass, plastic, paper, metal, and more.
- We plan to reuse these recyclables to create needed resources for our community.
What This Fundraiser Will Help Accomplish:
- Obtain vehicles, machinery, and land that will in return provide thousands of St. Tammany households the ability to recycle locally.
- We will be able to do this through curbside pick-up services and parish-wide drop-off locations.
- We will be able to enter into the first phase of plastic recycling for our community.
- We will create jobs and bring new industry and technology to the parish.
