Friends, please read this story about a kind and generous man who is facing a financial crisis. His name is Les Mays. He's 77 years old living in Beaumont, California currently. He started working in the cotton fields when he was tall enough to carry a basket in the 1950s in Arkansas. With a limited education, he was determined to be successful. He moved to California and turned his life around by being creative, working for McDonnell Douglas, Pacific Bell Telephone, and more. He started a mobile DJ service called Les Disco Experience and played music for nightclubs, weddings, and other events, with records provided by the pros. In addition, in late 1976, he started a non-profit organization called Helping Hands. In the late 80s and 90s, he opened a nightclub called Bogey's in Fresno, CA, with two other friends and then had his own radio show called Les Mays Oldie Show on Power 94 FM.
Later in life, he and his brothers, with construction backgrounds, started cabinet shops which unfortunately went on fire. The brothers put their heart and soul into their business. Things were good until the pandemic in 2020, and ultimately they lost everything.
Les, at age 70, couldn't find gainful employment, so he started a handyman business in a retirement community. For the last several years, he has barely made ends meet, and the bills are piling up with no method of steady payment since the pandemic. His home was also broken into a while back, and they busted open his small safe and stole $5,000, money that he had for different projects to be done. The police never found any suspects of the break-in, which set him behind even further. The money has never been recovered. Due to the mounting bills and two rent increases, he is playing catch-up on limited income. I'm Ginger, a friend of Les and his daughter. I can tell you that anytime someone needs help, they call Les. Just to prove what kind of person he is, an elderly lady had fallen in the bathtub and she was in there for 2 days. The neighbors called Les because they thought something was wrong. He was there in a flash, went through a window, and she was still laying in the bathtub. He saved her life. This is just one story out of hundreds. This senior community has grown to depend on his services, love, and attention to their needs, and he wants to continue to be there for them as long as God will allow! He has and continues to be a giver in whatever way he can.
If you can lend a helping hand, no donation is too small and will be very much appreciated.
