Lend a Paw to Benedict & Kari

On January 1st, our favorite little 9 year old Shih Tzu, Benedict, had a seizure for the first time and scared the crap out of his mama. Since then has been a whirlwind of vet appointments to try to pinpoint the cause. As of this last week, his health has been slowly declining. Benedict rapidly lost a couple of pounds, isn't eating or drinking, is lethargic, and is having blood in places it shouldn't be. Kari has brought him in to her primary vet several times this week, and has received little answers from a full day drop off, x-rays, numerous blood tests, change to soft food, and two prescriptions.
As of this morning, Saturday January 20th, Benedict is currently in the ICU at the Emergency Vet in St. Paul, where he stayed overnight last night. He is stable this morning, and Monday is the soonest that either her primary or the emergency vet can get him an ultrasound, which is the next step. All of this is so unexpected and has added up fast - it is already inching up to the $5,000 mark with what could be a lot more to come.
Throughout all of this, Benedict is still showing so many positive signs of hope. He searches for butt scratches, he will go upstairs to bed and outside to do his business, and has moments of perkiness and sassiness that we all love from him. He is a fighter and has lots of life left to live!!
If you know Kari, you know that dogs are her most favorite thing in this world and that her own two, Benedict and Lucy, are her babies. Kari is the absolute definition of someone who would give you the shirt off of their back, and goes out of her way to make sure everyone around her is as happy as she can possibly help make them. She is so selfless and puts the needs of so many in front of her own, so let's rally together to pay some of that back in this extremely stressful and unknown time.
Please share this everywhere, and send all of the positive vibes you can muster to Benedict and his mama during this time. Thank you for all of your support!
