Lennie's Road to Recovery

We are creating this fundraiser for our four-year-old emotional support miniature longhaired dachshund - Lennie, aka Suga. When my sister arrived home from work yesterday, December 6th, she found Lennie paralyzed under her bed. She immediately took Lennie to the emergency veterinarian, and they discovered that she had a ruptured disc in the middle of her back. We had a critical decision to make.

We were given two options:

1. We could give her steroids, but it would guarantee that she would be immobile for life, with only a 50 percent chance of surviving.

2. Or - the vets can perform life and quality-of-life saving surgery with a 90 percent chance of survival. The surgery is a long extensive process. If successful, we can take Lennie home as soon as the vets clear her. She will be crated and mostly immobile for the first month as she recovers, with a catheter and regular physical therapy. From there, we will continue the PT at home with the goal that she will be able to regain use of all of her legs. While it is a long journey ahead, Lennie is an essential part of our lives. She deserves to live her life as whole as possible.

We have decided, in the hopes to give her the best option possible, to pursue the surgery option. However, given the severity of her injury and the length of time she will need to recover, the cost is between $15,000 - $20,000. All donations will go directly to the cost of surgery, PT, and supportive care.
