Leone’s Kicking Cancer

El jueves 15 de Julio nuestro mundo se detuvo por un momento. Después de una prueba de sangre anormal, se le recomendó a Natalia y a Darío llevar urgentemente a su hijo Leone a la sala de urgencias del Children’s Health Hospital en Dallas, TX . A las pocas horas, se les dijo lo impensable, su niño había sido diagnosticado con leucemia linfoblástica aguda y debe empezar su quimioterapia inmediatamente.

Ahora bien, a pesar del paso de los días, debo confesar que todavía no he podido digerir el hecho de que mi inteligente, creativo, amoroso y ocurrente sobrino de dos años años tenga cáncer. Sin embargo, la valentía y resiliencia de Leone me han inspirado enormemente.

Muchos amigos maravillosos se han acercado a preguntar cómo pueden ayudar frente a esta situación. Por lo tanto, hemos creado esta campaña para reunir fondos, ya que se necesitarán cuidados y tratamientos de larga duración en la recuperación de Leone. De hecho, esta iniciativa busca reducir el costo astronómico asociado al tratamiento del cáncer pediátrico y la carga financiera insostenible que este conlleva.

No sobra decir que Natalia y Darío saben que el cáncer es grande pero que Dios es mucho más GRANDE. Es por eso que también les piden que los acompañen y los ayuden a través de oraciones por la salud de Leone.

On Thursday, July 15 our world stood still for a moment. After an abnormal blood test result, Leone's parents were advised to rush him to the Emergency Room at Children's Health hospital in Dallas,TX, and within hours his parents, Natalia and Dario, were told the unthinkable -- their Leone boy was diagnosed with leukemia and would begin chemo treatment immediately. It's still difficult to digest that my funny, smart, vivacious, creative and loving 3-year-old nephew has cancer. This boy’s bravery and resilience to the treatment has me humbled and awe-inspired.

Shortly thereafter, it was confirmed Leone has B- Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Although rare, ALL is the most common form of pediatric cancer.

A lot of our wonderful friends have asked how they can help, so we have created this campaign to raise funds for the long term care and support of Leone’s treatment and recovery. This will ease the financial burden stemming from the astronomical cost associated with pediatric cancer treatment.

Natalia and Dario know that cancer is big, but they also know that the God they serve is BIGGER! They ask that you stand beside them and support them with your prayers over Leone and their family.
