Leo's Wheels
Donation protected
Leo Collins was born on January 26, 2022. He has a rare genetic condition called X-linked myotubular myopathy. This disorder results in a significant deficiency of the protein necessary for muscle growth, affecting his ability to breathe, swallow, and move. Despite being non-verbal, our Leo is smart and resourceful, consistently discovering ways to play and learn.
Due to his condition, Leo cannot sit up or bear his body weight, making travel challenging for him. Children with his diagnosis often grow quite tall, and at three years old, Leo is already nearing the height of his seven-year-old sister. While we are thrilled to see Leo thriving, the need for a specialized van has come sooner than expected. Lifting him in and out of a minivan has become increasingly difficult for Marcus and Jess. Our family is creating this fundraising opportunity to help purchase a specialized vehicle equipped with a lift and a jump seat to ensure the safety of Leo, his parents, and his caregivers. The cost of this type of van typically ranges from $55,000 to $80,000, which would place a significant financial strain on the Collins family.
Every donation, no matter how small, is appreciated. Collectively, it will make a significant difference. Thank you so much!
