Hi, I’m Peter, Secretary of the Lee Enfield Rifle Association of Australia Inc (LERAA) a not for profit organisation.
In 1897 the first Australian team to use a .303 rifle strolled onto the grounds of Bisley Shooting Ground, Woking, England to compete in the 1897 Kolapore Cup. They were deemed to be excellent marksman and took out the trophy defeating many teams from the United Kingdom and Empire.
This year LERAA accepted an invitation from TransContinental Rifle Association (TCRA) to once again return an Australian civilian service rifle team back to Bisley in 2024. The invitation is to compete at the Imperial Meeting with historic .303 Lee Enfield rifles. The first Imperial Meeting was contested on Wimbledon Common, in south-west London, in 1860 when Queen Victoria fired the first shot and gave a prize of £250 to the best individual marksman. Today the National Rifle Association (UK) hold the Imperial Meeting as an open competition with the aim to promote and encourage marksmanship throughout the King’s dominions, This is an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the first Australian team and reopen the international pathway for this historical Civilian Service Rifle discipline where Australian marksmen have demonstrated great skill and aptitude.
