Friends, Family, & Everyone - I have a big ask from you, please.
- We are the Bowen’s; John, Leslie, Elizabeth, Johnny, Joe, and David. Our family was dealt a wild card last December (2022). My mom, Leslie, has suffered a severe brain injury. She has suffered a brain hemorrhage due to what is currently believed to be an active aneurysm or stroke. She was airlifted from her hometown hospital - Hilton Head Hospital - to MUSC in Charleston in early December (2022). She was on the NICU for about a week the two weeks on the neurological unit. She has been moved to the MUSC acute rehabilitation facility in Charleston. Her eye won’t open leaving her functionally blind. She is able to speak but she is very confused. A primary focus at rehab has been regaining basic balance so she may perform basic ADL with assistance. She is expected to need full time care from here out.
- Unfortunately, there is another issue. My sister has a rare severe degenerative neuromuscular disease know as Friedreich's ataxia. As time has progressed Elizabeth has developed into a position that requires full time care. My mother was her full time care giver until this emergency occurred.
We believe the ongoing full time care *at home* for each individual (Leslie & Elizabeth) will be between $60,000.00 to $100,000.00 per year. *** UPDATE - we have found care for the two together for about $95,000 *** which should be enough to help cover their nursing care for the next year; enough time for us to save for the care beyond 2023.
We all know it’s our turn to provide the care for her in which she’s so loving given to all of us. We ask that if you’re able and find it in your heart to do so, please, help our mom and sister.
❤️ Thank You & Much Love to You All!! ❤️
