Leslie's Breast Cancer Battle
Donation protected
Leslie was diagnosed with a Ductal Invasive Carcinoma, a type of breast cancer, the week before Hurricane Florence came. Over the last year, she and her family have been thru a tough financial struggle caused by her declining health. They have lost their home, their financial independence, and now face the upcoming battle of treating her breast cancer.
She has health insurance, but the mounting medical bills forced them to have to give up their home in the place they love, the NC mountains. Having little money to find a new place, She, her husband, and 17yr old daughter moved into an RV at the Pamlico Sound. Unfortunately when Hurricane Florence came, a week after her cancer diagnosis, it flooded and totaled their RV and now they have had to move back to her mothers house. FEMA offered little assistance, not enough to replace or even completely repair the RV well enough for it to be habitable again.
She had her double mastectomy on 10/15/2018 and was fortunate enough to come thru that with little complication so we are incredibly grateful for that blessing! She was also fortunate enough to have enough of her tissue spared to be able to have reconstructive surgery. That process started at the same time as her mastectomy and it will be a long journey to reach completion.
She had her Chemo port put in the week after her mastectomy, and starts chemo the first week of November. Any one of these things would be enough to beat down most people, but she just has such an amazing spirit, and remains positive, even after all the hardship she and her family have endured over the past couple of months.
Time off from drawing income to care for her has also greatly affected her husband's ability to provide care and stability for the family as they go thru this journey. They are finding it exceedingly difficult to pay the mounting medical bills and have no way at all to establish independence, having lost everything they have except the things they were able to pack into their van and bring back before the hurricane hit.
Any help you can provide to offer support for her and her family while they are going thru this difficult situation would be beyond appreciated. Anyone who knows JD and Leslie know they have, and will, do anything and everything they can to help out a person in need. They have always been there for so many people in their times of need, both emotionally and physically, but this time they are the ones in need of some love from people willing to do the same.
If you are not comfortable donating via online campaigns, feel free to contact them directly. All donations are deposited directly into Leslie's bank account within 24hrs of receipt. They have been so strong and have managed to keep such a positive outlook. Above all they are extremely grateful to have the support of her friends and family, and to have the opportunity to defeat this cancer and someday return to a normal life.
