Leslie's One Step at a Time Fund

Leslie Burns, a beloved English teacher at Foothill High School,  was involved in a tragic boating accident on July 2nd while enjoying a beautiful day out with friends at Lake Mead. Thankfully an off-duty nurse and firefighter paramedic boating in the area responded to a distress call and provided life-saving assistance by applying a tourniquet on her right leg. They stayed by Leslie's side until Air Methods Flight arrived to fly her to UMC Trauma. Unfortunately, due to the severity of the injuries she sustained, the trauma team were forced to amputate her lower right leg. 

She is currently recovering at UMC and is in good spirits. As it stands, Leslie has a daunting road ahead, including another surgery, an arduous recovery and rehabilitation process, a lengthy work absence, and permanent life changes, including costly prosthetics and eventually learning how to walk again. This is a heavy burden to place on Leslie and her family alone and we can all help lighten the load as they learn to adjust and cope. Every bit of support helps, certainly from a financial standpoint considering the magnitude of the necessary health care costs that continue to pile up, but also from an emotional standpoint as we consider the multitude of ways this will affect Leslie and her family and their day-to-day lives. Those of you that know Leslie on a personal level, know how wonderful and loving she is. If you are able to help us rally behind this wonderful sarcastic and loving person, please do.
