Leslie & Adè's Apartment Fire Fund

Thank you for visiting this page and for taking the initial step in helping Leslie and Adè rebuild their lives.

On Monday, June 6th at approximately 5:30 pm, Leslie and Adè's apartment in Albany Park caught on fire. Although the cause has yet to be determined, it is assumed that the fire started in the unit below Leslie's. Her unit, as well as 10 others, are a total loss. Luckily, Leslie was able to make it out of the apartment as the flames started coming through the back porch and into her kitchen. Adè was with his father and fortunately did not have to experience this traumatic event. They are both safe and unharmed and know how lucky they are to have each other.

For all who know Leslie (and those who do not) know she is a selfless educator in Chicago Public Schools. A 10 year CPS veteran who has served in some of the toughest neighborhoods in the city, Leslie has devoted her career as a school counselor to helping students overcome grief and trauma. In addition to being a counselor, she is a single mother to the sweetest and brightest little kindergartner named Adè. He's a big soccer fan (visca barça, visca Catalunya), plays the sport year round, is a competitive FIFA player, and loves reading, especially the Magic Treehouse series. The bond mother and son share is strong and their bond is unbreakable. Although this is going to be a tough journey for these two, they will find a way to persevere, but they will need the help of their friends and family to get there.

Due to a prior miscommunication with the insurance company, Leslie will not be able to collect any funds or resources. With only the personal belongings (purse and car keys) she was able to grab on her way out the door, Leslie and Adè have nothing else and are starting from scratch. Know that your donation will be immediately used to gain a new apartment as both are currently staying with family and friends. Funds will also go towards purchasing clothing, furniture, kitchen and bath items, personal day to day items, and any other things to help Leslie and Adè gain a sense of normalcy. It is important at this time that Leslie has support to help Adè through this tough time as he finishes up the school year in the coming weeks.

Despite this overwhelming loss, I am completely amazed by how positive and upbeat Leslie has remained.  In true Leslie fashion, she is looking for the silver lining to all of this. Please consider donating whatever you can to Leslie and Adè.
