Let K9 Pac-man RETIRE
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Susan Thrailkill and I am trying to raise money to buy a new K9 dog for the City of Dunn so Pac-Man can retire. See his story below.
Let’s talk about Pac-man. This good boy has been a loyal & faithful defender of the thin blue line for 5 1/2 years. Most police K-9s are retired after about 7 years of service, give or take. Pac is now 7 years old with some joint problems, causing him to limp at times. He may, at most, have another year and a half or so of service left in him. He’s been with his current handler for the last 3 years. His current handler is switching agencies and has offered to replace Pac with the City of Dunn police department if they would retire Pac and let him live out his life with Nathan. Rather than let this dog retire, which he rightfully deserves, the chief made the decision to reassign Pac-man to a 3rd handler, knowing he only has a limited time left to work and when you factor in training with a new handler, that time is even less. To be even further spiteful, while Nathan was on light duty, the department took Pac and placed him in the animal shelter for months, which is where he still remains at this point. He was not even allowed to stay with his handler & the place he’s known to be home for the last 3 years. He was placed, and left, in the animal shelter out of retaliation. Since being at the shelter, his handler has visited & Pac-man has since had several issues including hot spots on his tail, Trazodone for anxiety, and stomach issues from the stress. Given the fact that Pac is 7 years old, with joint problems, he deserves a life of peaceful retirement with Nathan. He deserves better than how the City of Dunn police department is treating him.
I truly hope the City of Dunn police department rethinks this decision & corrects the mistake they have made. Pac has earned his retirement - he most certainly does not deserve to be sitting in the animal shelter after what he has done for them. The bond between a K9 & his handler is incredibly strong. They are family.
