Let Love Abide: Honoring the Life of Beth Wittenberg

"Didn't you feel stronger when you let love grow?
Didn't it open you up inside?
Hey, let love abide." — Amy Ray
In the early hours of April 18, the world lost an irreplaceable soul. Beth Wittenberg—artist, activist, wife, megafan, and fireball of a human being—was tragically killed in a car accident. Her passing has left heartbreak rippling across countless lives, and none more so than her wife, Sheri Potter.
Beth and Sheri had recently bought a home, full of plans and promises. They were building a life rich with creativity, laughter, and love. Now Sheri faces a future without her partner, her person, and is left navigating profound grief and the financial burdens that come with such a sudden loss.
Beth was an accomplished artist—raw, bold, and utterly unafraid to tell the truth through her work. Her pieces, featured across New England and in the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, invited viewers to reflect, to feel deeply, and to think. She created with a sense of urgency, fueled by the belief that art could—and should—move people.
She was also a tireless advocate for social justice. Beth didn’t just believe in equity—she lived it. She showed up, spoke out, and created space for others to do the same. Whether it was uplifting queer voices, fighting for marginalized communities, or offering words of fierce compassion to someone struggling, Beth led with purpose and heart.
That same spirit carried into the Amy Ray Ride or Die (ARROD) Facebook group she co-founded with her dear friend, Christi Cofield. What started as a fan space for the Indigo Girls and Amy Ray Band grew into a 2,000+ member community bound by deep love, generosity, and connection. Beth was the beating heart of ARROD—sharing playlists, road trip stories, and late-night reflections—and lifting up strangers with humor and tenderness. Strangers quickly became friends. Since her passing, the stories from members have poured in: tales of thoughtful gifts, perfectly timed messages, and the kind of kindness that lingers for a lifetime.
This GoFundMe has been created to support Sheri with expenses as she begins to walk this road without Beth.
If you knew Beth, you would know how hard she loved. If you didn’t—trust us when we say she was unforgettable.
Please donate if you’re able. And if you’re not, sharing this page helps carry her memory forward.
Let’s keep her fire burning. Let love abide.
