Let the Sunshine back in!

Hey, We are Shannon and Jax, the owners of Nefelibata Arts and Crafts on Ave C south in Saskatoon SK. A cozy little 2nd hand/Vintage/Thrifty Arts and Crafts Supply shop.

We are located in the community of Riversdale. A community with a mixed socioeconomic makeup. There is a safe injection site on the same street as a funky wine bar and an excellent locally-owned butcher shop. Down the street from us there is a Queer Community Center, a food bank, and a men's shelter, there is also one of the longest-running dim sum restaurants in the city and a cool juice bar nearby.

We love this neighbourhood and the community in and around it.

On Tuesday Sept 3, a community member was denied a spot at the shelter and had nowhere to go for the night. In frustration, he smashed 4 windows of small businesses, including ours. The police caught him in the act and he was taken into custody. We have filled out all the paperwork, but do not expect to see financial restitution from the offender given their life circumstances.

This speaks to a larger systemic issue this neighborhood and the city as a whole are facing. While we can't fix everything, we can try to be part of the change.

We are fundraising to cover the cost of replacing our window. $1700, anything beyond that will be split 50-50 between the shop and a donation to Prairie Harm Reduction.

We are a small business, trying to keep the cost of art supplies and access to creative outlets affordable and accessible.

Some FAQs

-What about insurance? Sure, it could cover it, but we would have to pay a deductible, then the window, and then increased premiums. Paying for it ourselves is the more economical route in this case.
