CALL TO ACTION: Parents and players of APS
Please support and help us take this to Federal Court so OUR KIDS CAN PLAY. We will be filing an injunction in Federal Court this week and we need your action to help our students.
WE, a group of parents and coaches from several schools in the city have already secured attorneys who will be filing pleadings this week on behalf of students who have been left on the sidelines. This initiative is being done for all students across the city and we welcome everyone to get involved and hoping to get our neighbors in Valencia County and any other area that is being impacted by this order from the STATE.
NMPED and the State of New Mexico have required that school sports throughout the state can only proceed if learning moves from virtual-only to hybrid or in-person learning. The largest school district in the state and one of the largest in the United States has chosen to remain online through the rest of the current semester, therefore prohibiting thousands of student-athletes from participating in extracurricular activities for the remainder of the 2020/2021 school year. This would include all activities that would be under the guidance of NMAA participation and affected by the NMPED guidelines.
Meanwhile, other school districts around the country and state, have been able to proceed or been given exemptions to play sports. Students in the Albuquerque Public Schools district, and others around the state, have been held hostage by the decisions of NMPED and the State of New Mexico.
On behalf of our student-athletes, who have already suffered so much due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we would like to file a lawsuit and/or an injunction to allow them to play the sports they love. All funds raised would go toward litigation and any fees incurred in this process.
