My name is Marcia Ferreira and staff
at the Saint Bernardine’s Medical Center are fundraising to support our co-worker/friend Scott Heywood. Please read the following story:
”Our Mason has been dealing with some major issues with not being able to breathe through his nose, sleep apnea, a progressively swollen cheek, (and what we were told were his adenoids) for a while now. After a year of different doctors appts, he was finally seen this past Tuesday by an ENT pediatric doctor at Rady Childrens Hospital in San Diego.
After he had a CT, the doctor informed us that Mason has a large mass in his sinuses, growing into other places in his face, also extending into his brain. Obviously we are in shock, as we were only expecting to be told he may need his tonsils or adenoids removed. The next step is to get an MRI, & see a neurosurgeon on Tuesday, Dec 14. After which they will decide when he will be admitted to have an angiogram done to determine if the tumor is cancerous or not.
They are unable to do a biopsy because of how vascular the tumor is, but they are looking at doing the first surgery possibly next week or the week after. Because the tumor has extended in different places, he will need multiple surgeries & they will all be done in San Diego.
While we have faith that our amazing boy is in the best hands possible, there are so many unknowns & we are heartsick, so worried & stressed over our sweet, kind, humble, hilarious, Baseball loving, sunshine giving Mason James.
**We are asking anyone who feels so inclined to join us in a day of prayer/positive thoughts/good vibes tomorrow, December 12, for our awesome boy, to help him get through this hard trial. I have no doubt that when people join together in love, that only good things can happen.**
Thank you so so much to those that have already reached out with such love and concern for one of the most precious souls I have ever known. Thank you so much to those that have held me up in my moments of anguish and doubt. In just the past few days, our family of 6 has grown even closer, united in our immense love for our boy. There will be some pretty tough times ahead, but we have HOPE that through modern medicine, love , positivity, prayers and Him, that he will not only be okay, he will thrive.”
