Let's Help Paula Howley
As you may know, Sunshine Coast resident Paula Howley was recently in a serious car accident. She was stopped at a stop sign, waiting for the person in front of her to go. Suddenly, she was hit SO HARD from behind that her car actually spun around and was accordioned on the front and back and the truck ended up on her passenger side. The driver (allegedly) did not even attempt to brake so he plowed straight into her at full speed.
Needless to say, Paula's car was totalled. Everyone thinks, "Oh it's sure good that we all have insurance," right? WRONG. Because Paula's car was old (even though it functioned well) ICBC only gave her $1800, which they consider to be the replacement value. She cannot buy a car for $1800. They gave her a rental car for 5 days and told her they were being "generous" because most people only get 3 day.
To make matters worse, Paula was in the process of going to all the schools to promote and set up her Public Speaking For Kids programs, both here on the Coast and in the city. Losing her car, and recovering from her injuries (concussion, whip lash) meant that she could not set all these programs up so now she has lost much of her income as well. She simply cannot walk and bus to these schools. For example, it would take 2.5 hours to get to Pender Harbour School and 2.5 hours to get home.
Paula is raising her daughter on her own and she desperately needs a car.
It is so frustrating for her to be in this position because she is such a go-getter! How awful that some distracted (allegedly) driver has caused her so much pain and anguish.
If you could please donate any amount, it would her her get a reliable and safe car and help get her back on her feet and working again. Let's show Paula how much our community loves her! Thank you!
