On Tuesday, September 15, 2020, the Booker family's world changed very drastically in the blink of an eye. Jason (Husband to Melissa and dad to Isaiah, Nevaeh and JJ) had a massive heart attack that caused him to lose oxygen several times over the next 24 hours. This also caused fluid to develop behind his lungs and the doctors had no choice but to put him on a ventilator and heart machine due to severe damage to the heart. In the first 24 hours, the doctors had very little hope that he would survive but in true Jay fashion, he rallied! He woke up several times and passed neurological testing showing he is still very much alive and did not suffer any permanent brain damage from going without oxygen several times. If you know Jay, you know he is a survivor. Overcoming cancer in his 20's as well as medical issues from his chemo well into his 30's and 40's. He's never stopped fighting for his life and his family! But at 45, to be faced with this major medical situation is not going to be an easy recovery! He is currently on the Heart Transplant list at Yale awaiting a heart. The doctors are remaining very positive for a recovery with a new heart and that the lungs will kick back in once the heart is in. But now his wife and children are going to need our help! This family is truly a homegrown Stratford family! Going through Stratford Pop Warner as kids, playing football and cheerleading for Stratford High School, coaching and being a team mom for Pop Warner & the Stratford High School football team and having children who have gone through our local sports programs like Stratford Baseball Association, Stratford Titans Baseball, Stratford Pop Warner and Sterling House, they have certainly crossed paths with most of us over the years!!
The Bookers would never ask for help, but now is the time they really need it with home expenses, the many, many medical bills that they are incurring even after insurance, dinners (we're setting up a meal train as well) and any other expenses that come up. The last thing Missy needs right now is to have to worry about these things. We want her to be able to focus on Jason and the kids!!
