Let's send Kaws to Lee University!

Dear friends

Please know that it has been a great honor meeting and getting to know you.   I want to share an opportunity that God has opened for me that would be life changing.   This is a door that opened without any planning on my part and one that could be an instrument for placing me in a music ministry role of which I could only dream.

As you know, I have served as the director of the Daraja Children’s Choir for the past two years.  It has been a great privilege leading these precious children whom you have met.   In fact, you have also played a part in the ministry of Daraja since you opened your home to children.    When I say precious children, you understand what I am saying.   The experience of leading the Daraja Choir during the last two years has been a huge blessing and one I wouldn’t trade for anything.   This is also true because it has reinforced my understanding that God has called me to music ministry.  

I grew up in a family of 6 with a widowed mother and a lot of economic hardships in Uganda. Since my childhood, music has been my passion, and God has gifted me with musical talent.   While He has gifted me in this area, I’ve known for years a degree in music ministry would better prepare me.   Traveling in the United States for the past two years and having the blessing of meeting people like you has been life changing.   

I started this letter by stating that God has opened a door without any planning on my part.   Towards the end of our 2019 tour, in the space of about 3 weeks, I heard of Lee University in Cleveland, TN, spoke to Daraja friends connected to the university, had a tour of the campus, and was accepted on the spot!   As I consider the opportunity to attend this outstanding Christian university, you can imagine how overwhelmed I am at watching my great desire become a possible reality.    Lee University is offering me the chance to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Worship which is a 4-year program. 

As details unfolded, I learned that the University’s offer of acceptance also included a 16% scholarship.   As you know, the cost of room and board for American universities is very high.   After the scholarship, the amount would be about $25,000.  I have learned throughout my life that when you need help you should never feel to ashamed to ask for it.  I am so grateful for the offer from Lee University, but the amount of money needed to make this dream a reality is far greater than anything I could come up with on my own.
