Lets All Help Drexel

For those of us who know Drexel, he is one of the most generous human beings in
existence! In all our lives there comes a time when we could use a lift, but our Pride
prohibits us from reaching for a helping hand. Friends, THIS IS that time for Drexel. It is
against everything he stands for that I’m putting this Go Fund Me request out there for his benefit.
If you’ve ever had him encourage you in any way, saw an inspirational quote, attended an annual free BBQ and 4th of July party, saw how involved he was with the Boy Scouts of America from his Son as a Cub Scout all the way to an Eagle Scout, witnessed how he provides free dinners for single Moms, or followed along his most recent, and EPIC, journey on the Appalachian Trail (as aka: Prepper), then now is our time to assist this wonderful example of what a selfless man should look like. Will you join me in extending a helping hand?
What started out earlier this year as a six-month 2198-mile journey across the
Appalachian Trail turned into a nightmare as he was nearing the halfway point. He had
a simple blister that got infected with MRSA and was rushed in for an emergency
surgery on May 1st in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to try and save his foot. The first
surgery did not work and three days later they had to go in and do a second operation.
He was in the hospital for a month and then stayed in the Chambersburg area as he
recovered for an additional month. He had outpatient therapy on his foot for the month
that he was recovering in Pennsylvania. The insurance company now says it was
unauthorized and out of network, they are claiming he is responsible for the $12,000
medical bill.
July 1st he was able to get back on the trail to try and complete the second half of the
Appalachian Trail, that’s when his knees started giving him trouble.
After 300 more miles his knees forced him off the trail and he came home in August. He
did not realize how bad his knees were until he had his first set of x-rays once he
returned home and unfortunately both knees had collapsed and were now bone-on-
bone with no cartilage left. It wasn’t long after that a surgeon said he needed two total
knee replacements on both knees sooner than later. The first one was done October
18th and he is home recovering. The second one is scheduled for December 18 of this
year. This will keep him from returning to work most likely until early February 2024, six
full months later than anticipated, his goal was to be back to work last August. This new,
highly unexpected and devasting, news has set him back significantly financially, but not
surprisingly a can-do spirit is keeping his head in the game.
