Let's come together for Jay

Family and Friends of Jay,

Early Saturday Morning at around 1:30 am, Jay and his wife (Lisa Oquendo) were on their way back from a fun-filled day down the shore at a Jeep festival that was happening this weekend in Wildwood, NJ.

Having only been 18 minutes from home, they started having trouble with the Jeep overheating and pulled over to the side of the road. The issue was beyond a simple fix and so a tow truck was called. The tow truck showed up within 20-30 min. As Jay and the tow truck driver (who we now know his name as Ivan) were behind the truck trying to grab some tools, unbeknownst to them a vehicle was speeding and heading directly towards them. A drunk driver rammed Jason directly and sandwiched him between the 2 vehicles (The car that hit him and his Jeep). Ivan was able to jump out of the way in time to avoid the collision.

Luckily for Lisa (his wife), she happened to be on the right side of the vehicle between the jeep and the guard rail when the crash occurred. In total shock and not sure what just happened, she came around the back of the truck after the collision to find her beloved husband on the floor screaming in agony and bleeding profusely.

Jay had a severely open wound on the side of his ribs and lower abdomen and as she would describe it as I could see his intestines. She immediately covered the wound to help stop the bleeding and Ivan called the Police and Paramedics. The drunk driver, came out of his vehicle came over to where jay was laying on the floor and rather than assisting to help, the coward took off on foot. Lisa at that point stunned and in shock became dizzy and thankfully Ivan jumped in and applied pressure to Jason's open wound.

After what felt like an eternity the ambulance showed up and took Jason and Lisa to Cooper Hospital and he was immediately admitted to trauma care in order to get him stabilized and stop the bleeding.

Jason is currently in ICU and has a SEVERE open wound on his right side, shattered abdominal bones, shattered pelvis, a broken collar bone, broken right tibia, broken ribs where part of his lung is outside his rib cage. and excessive bruising and cuts.

Thankfully the paramedics along with the doctors were able to stop the internal bleeding and stabilize him.

He has undergone 4 surgeries so far in just a matter of 3 days and has 2 more to go (assuming there are no complications) He is currently heavily sedated and under a medically induced coma and on a ventilator to assist with his breathing.

Jason will be spending quite a bit of time in the hospital while he is on his road to a very difficult and long recovery. After the hospital, he will need to begin therapy to help him walk again. He will have to undergo hip replacements, having screws and plates to hold the broken bone together and additional surgeries in the future to help us get Jason back to some sort of normal again.

Those that know Jason, or have had Jason touch their lives in one way or another can say without a doubt that he would do anything to help anyone. He would literally give you the shirt of his back without hesitation! That's just the kind of person he is.

Prior to this event, Jason was a healthy, strong, and driven indivdual. He has an entourage of Family and Friends that love him dearly and all have started the Prayer Engines all across the globe to aid in his health and recovery.

Lisa, Jason's wife believes in her heart that God spared her so she could be by her Husbands side in this time of need. Needless to say by her being there to help cover his wound from bleeding out, she and Ivan were Gods send to save Jason's life. Although the memories of that night continue to flash over and over and therapy will be needed to help her get through these troubled times. I felt It was my duty to create this Go-Fund-Me page to help them during these troubling times that they both are about to endure.

Lisa will be his Rock and by his side to support her husband through what seems to be a long journey back to health and recovery. In doing so Lisa will now be unemployed and a dedicated caregiver to her husband.

As we all know, there comes a time in our lives where we have a chance to impact another human being by a simple gesture of kindness that goes a long long way. No dollars and cents will ever replace the trauma and memories of that night but sure will help with the aftermath of going through something like this.

We can’t thank you enough for your prayers, support, and unending love. You have walked with us through this very difficult time and we felt you there the entire way.

We are asking you all to please assist where you can to help ease the impending financial burden by donating to this cause in any way you are able.

Please keep Jason and his family in your prayers through these tough times.

We love you so much and we thank you for the support and donations!
