WHAT THE PROJECT NEEDS

Step 1 - The Manga & Pilot Episode

The trailer was launched and the general public loves the concept! The press reached out to us, and the shared review on the project is immensely positive! This has given the team confidence in moving forward with the next step: producing a Manga and a Pilot episode.

The Manga
For those who don’t know, Manga is a style of comic book/graphic novel that originates from Japan and contains anywhere between 180 to 300+ pages usually in black & white and read "back-to front" and right to left. Traditionally, 90% of all anime series are green-lit based on the fanbase of a Manga.

Our Caribbean version of “Manga” which me known as Mango (just kidding…) will follow the art style of Manga, however, it will be presented in the western style of reading, and will be in full colour.
The Manga is expected to have 200 pages of comic artwork and will have a budget set at $20,000 USD. Profits from the manga sales will go towards the production budget of the project.

The 1st Edition - Expected February 2024
Vol. 1 Manga of "Jamaica No Duppy" will be available for purchase worldwide via amazon.com and select-bookstores. In order to enhance collectors interest, it will be limited to 5000 books, followed by the release of the standard issue.

There will also be a Founder's Edition Manga - This hardcover version will have between 250 - 300 pages. This version includes concept art for the character designs, developer notes, detailed imagery & descriptions of weapons, outfits, and origin stories for each character to enhance the reader experience.

The Pilot Episode
The leading Anime shows have episode budgets set at an average of $80,000 USD per episode and generally have a run time of 21 minutes. Our pilot episode will follow suit, but have a starting budget of $40,000 USD. We hope to complete it in time to launch it July 2024 in Jamaica for the projects 2nd attendance of the wonderful Jamaican AnimeCom Fest. The pilot episode will be created for the following reasons:

Initial Feedback: The pilot allows us to gauge audience reactions, which can be beneficial for making adjustments in both the anime and the manga.
Building Hype: A pilot episode can build significant excitement and anticipation for the newly released manga.
Expanded Merchandising: If the pilot is well-received, it opens up opportunities for merchandise like figures, clothing, or other memorabilia, boosting overall profitability.
Investor Interest: A successful pilot can make it easier to secure funding for the full-length anime and additional volumes of the manga.

The Story
The story was written by four persons, 2 Jamaicans, a Vincentian, and a Trinidadian.

"Lord Colonoth's mercenaries have excavated the heart of Daroth, giving him control over the fallen angel and the dark prince of the Duppy. Intent on ruling Jamaica and the Caribbean, Colonoth meets resistance from Malakai Kingston, a Jamaican billionaire and philanthropist. Malakai recruits Jade & Kaito, emerging young heroes, into the Order of the Yardie Vanguard. Together, they aim to prevent Jamaica and the Caribbean from falling into darkness."

The story was completed, reviewed several times and finally locked on its 5th draft. It is currently being prepped to be drawn into a Manga. Please note that this story will have a 13+ rating for stronger language, heavy action based-violence (its about fighting demons with powered weapons) and crude humor.

The Characters with authenticity!

The Characters are done! They were designed by artists from Jamaica, Guyana, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines, focusing on the regions ethnic diversity. Each character has an amazing back story and a strong motive. Due to the different art-styles from each artist, they were all sent to a Japanese Manga studio to harmonize their look and were directed by a Jamaican and Vincentian design team, which was absolutely crucial due to the Japanese artists’ unfamiliarity of important physical features. The 10 existing characters cost $6500 USD in total to make. We will need 4 more made to complete all character designs that are in this story.

Meet Jade & Beans!
Jade is a Jamaican schoolgirl with the top grades, loves sports, is the president of the debate club. She also has the biggest heart! She found Beans on a school trip to Malakai Kingston's Blue Mountain Crystal Research Centre. Beans was injured and Jade nursed her back to health, and “something” happened where they both became bonded, where Jade gained summoning powers of Bean’s Elemental abilities and are now inseparable. Her eyes have turned green due to the connection to Beans's jade stone power source that's embedded in her forehead.

RISKS & CHALLENGES

Existing Anime/Manga Market: Breaking into the existing anime and manga industry, dominated primarily by Japanese, South Korean and US creations, can be difficult.
Budget Constraints: High-quality anime and manga require substantial investment, and funding might be difficult to secure for a niche product, however, our slow and steady - step by step system should mitigate this.
Copyright Issues: Use of culturally specific elements, like folklore, could pose legal challenges as the creatures are not exclusive to the story, although the unique concept & designs are.

Imitation and Plagiarism: The concept could be copied or modified by larger studios, overshadowing the original.
Limited Audience: Being this niche means limiting profitability due too only having access to a pool of anime fans and those interested in Jamaica or the Caribbean. However, the story is engaging and it could develop its own fanbase, as a story like this has not been mass marketed before.
High Expectations: With such a positive response to the trailer, it can set high expectations, making any shortcomings in the final product more pronounced.
