LET'S FIGHT BOWEL CANCER AND SAVE LIVES

On 24th December 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 bowel cancer. For 6 months leading up to that point, I knew I was unwell and I was told on a number of occasions that I 'was too young' for certain diseases or conditions. On 9th January '23, I had a right hemicolectomy and since that moment, I feel compelled to help others.

It is a common misconception that bowel cancer is 'an old person's disease', but the reality is that you should never be told that you are too young to have bowel cancer. Although the majority of newly diagnosed bowel cancer cases occur in people aged 50 years and over, around 1 in 10 (10.7%) Australians diagnosed with bowel cancer are under the age of 50.

Bowel Cancer Australia is the leading community-funded charity dedicated to prevention, early diagnosis, research, quality treatment and the best care for everyone affected by bowel cancer. Your donations will help these heroes continue their fantastic work summarised as follows:
  • They challenge perceptions through dynamic campaigning that raises awareness and motivates action
  • They increase health knowledge and understanding through the provision of practical information and programs
  • They champion what matters most to people affected by bowel cancer and empower them with the tools and knowledge to be advocates for their own health
  • They provide practical and emotional support for the growing number of Australians affected by bowel cancer, building communities through shared experiences and creating a powerful voice for change
  • They campaign for access to quality treatment and best care, to ensure more people live beyond bowel cancer
  • They fund research as it is the only way to discover a cure for bowel cancer
  • They raise money to continue saving lives

Please join me in making a difference. I am running the Run Melbourne Half Marathon on 16th July '23 and I'm raising money to benefit Bowel Cancer Australia. Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
