Let's fund abortions!
Hey everybody! We (a group of friends) are aiming to collectively walk, cycle and run 2,000km in September to raise money for the Abortion Support Network.
Across Europe, women and other pregnant people face barriers to accessing safe, local, free abortion care – sometimes as a result of laws that directly criminalise all or most abortions (as is the case in Poland and Malta); sometimes as a result of lack of local services (as is the case in Northern Ireland). Sometimes these issues can be solved through pills-by-post, but sometimes women/pregnant people have to travel to access the care they need. The Abortion Support Network are involved in sending out pills-by-post, and they directly help patients with every aspect of travel. They help sort out passports (including emergency passports for people without documents, with limited right to travel, or people whose documents have expired); they pay for transport and accommodation, they liaise with hospitals and other healthcare providers in the destination country, and they directly pay for that care where necessary. The financial and logistical barriers to women and other pregnant people accessing this care are huge, and the Abortion Support Network work with every caller to find a way to get that person the help they desperately need and deserve.
Safe abortion care – on demand and without apology – is a cornerstone of feminist justice. Too many pregnant people across Europe still face significant obstacles in accessing this fundamental right. The Abortion Support Network do vital work every day to ensure that as many people as possible who want to access abortion care can do so, safely and with dignity. This isn't NGO nonsense – the money that we raise goes straight to helping women/pregnant people book flights, hotel rooms and hospital stays. Please donate if you can.
