Let’s Get Caren Back!

To know physical pain is to know how debilitating and disruptive it can be to daily life. Many of you know the journey of dear Caren Oberg and for those who don't this is Caren's story.

In December 2019, Caren's back stopped working. For this incredible athlete and horticulturist, she found herself unable to walk leaving her with no other options other than to endure the two-day surgery that would allow her to walk again and to live life.

The botched surgery has Caren left not only with collapsed vertebrae due to the titanium hardware being too large but also with a compromised thyroid and other complications. The Steadman Clinic, a world-renowned orthopedic clinic in Vail, Colorado is thankfully the answer as they deal with the most injured, top athletes in the World and have a remarkable reputation for working with the most complicated cases.

Caren has met with the back surgeon in Vail, who upon seeing the x-rays and hearing her story could barely contain his disgust for what has been done to her, and he is convinced that he can give Caren back the life that she wants to be living. One where she can walk again, sit in a chair, lay in bed and hopefully enjoy the surf of her beloved Nantucket.

With this major two-day surgery and a $10,000 deductible, there will be many bills to be paid and a loss of income due to her inability to work during this time. As a full-time physical laborer, Caren has the bills of life, from covering the cost of her daughter's tuition to college, groceries and house bills for her and Axel, not to mention the travel expenses to and from Nantucket to Vail multiple times.

Caren is quite humble and struggles to ask for help. She is one of the most giving and unconditionally loving humans and this is the time to rally for her.
