Getting Dan Swisher Mobile Again

GO TIME has arrived! Dan has been released from bed confinement by his doctors to resume activity. During his recuperation he was able to shop for and purchase a Toyota Sienna with a BraunAbility conversion. Modifications were completed this month. Here's a video of Dan in action. His new wheels give him the gift of freedom. None of this would have been possible without your support and willingness to come alongside us on our journey. We are sincerely grateful for your contributions and prayers!!!

Original Message to Friends and Family:

We are fundraising for our father, Dan Swisher, who has been confined to a wheelchair for 24 years, after suffering an accident that paralyzed him from the chest down. This new way of life introduced a vast array of new trials as you can imagine, making even the smallest task extremely difficult. Later complications required both of Dan’s legs to be amputated. Yet despite these daunting daily challenges, Dan remains one of the most optimistic people we know. 

Dan’s shoulders have progressively deteriorated through years of overuse, no longer permitting him to maneuver his manual wheelchair without severe pain. Thankfully, the insurance company recently approved him for a power wheelchair to relieve his body of the chronic stress of manual mobility. This was a great blessing, as Dan’s capacity to work has been significantly restricted by recent medical complications. However this also created a significant need…

A customized van is required to accommodate Dan’s new power wheelchair. Owning this type of van is the only way for Dan to remain mobile and independent. 

The average price for this type of vehicle is $85,000 and unfortunately, it is NOT covered by insurance. Suzanne’s employment has been sustaining the two of them through this challenging season, but this expense is simply beyond their means. 

If you know Dan and Suzanne, they are not ones to readily ask for help, since they do not want to burden anyone. Yet as their children, we would like to ask for help on their behalf. We feel that if anyone could benefit from an outpouring of love and support from others right now, it is them. 

We would be so grateful for any contribution you might be willing to make to help our Dad stay mobile. Should any contributions exceed the cost of the van, they will go directly toward Dan’s other medical expenses. Thank you so much for considering. We appreciate you!
