Let’s get Danny back on the road

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lisa and I’m fundraising for my incredibly strong son Danny.

Danny had saved up all his money, enough to get a moped and pass his CBT despite everything he had gone through. Getting a moped was something he’d wanted for years only for it to break down a few months later. We were told by the garage it would cost more to fix than the moped was worth so we made the decision to scrap it.

Please read his story to see why, after much deliberation I’ve created this page, he truly deserves something good to happen for him.

We understand people are struggling and I’ve honestly no idea if we’ll get anywhere close to being able to get him a new moped but if I don’t try, I’ll never know ☺️

This is how 2024 started for us…

The 3rd of January 2024 was the day my son’s life changed forever. After a routine blood test to re-check Daniel’s iron levels as he’d previously been anaemic we were contacted by the GP and advised to go straight to A&E as his levels were off the scale. After a full blood count was done at Calderdale all his levels were concerning and he was admitted overnight for further tests. The main concern was Danny’s kidney function and low red blood cell count. His blood pressure was dangerously high along with the potassium and creatinine levels. Life had changed in just 24 hours and we were transferred by ambulance to the LGI. Further tests and scans were done there and we were given the devastating news that Danny has end stage kidney failure. He underwent surgery on the 5th of January to fit a tube into his peritoneal cavity and will now be on dialysis until he can have a kidney transplant. After extensive training in hospital I am now able to do his dialysis every night at home. Home dialysis takes over but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Danny’s dialysis runs for 10 hours every night but at least he gets to have his treatment here. Danny turned 16 on the 22nd of January, he woke up on his Birthday on a hospital ward but the nurses were amazing and he got to come home.
His strength and courage throughout all this has what has kept us going. He managed to sit his GCSE’s and has a place at college in September. He even managed to pass his CBT through sheer determination.
We’ve all had our bad days, we’ve all cried and questioned everything! ‘Why Danny?’ ‘Why no symptoms?’ 6 months on we are stronger with a better mind set, chronic kidney disease will not define who Danny is.
Luckily Dan has an amazing family with people that are already undergoing tests to be a live donor for him. Kidney disease unfortunately is not curable and he will probably need more than one transplant during his life but for now dialysis is his life line and for that we are so grateful.
Life can change so quickly and unexpectedly. Dan was a seemingly normal, healthy young man, little did we know his kidneys were failing but as his Mum I feel blessed it was caught in time for dialysis to be an option for him. We still have no answers as to why this has happened and maybe we never will.

With your help let’s try and get Danny back on the road, let’s give him some independence back. Even the smallest of donation would mean the world to him.

Thank you x
