Let’s Get Joanie To Philly!

If you know Joan Summers then you know the only thing bigger than her brain is her heart. In the time I have known her, I have watched her selflessly put her community before herself over and over again and share everything she has with others without asking for anything in return. That’s why I’m asking everyone to help out make Joan’s move to the east coast as painless as possible.

The past few years have been difficult on all of us, and throughout it all, Joan has been there for anyone that has needed her. If you know Joan personally then I know you’ve had to fight off offers from her to take care of you even if it meant that she would be putting herself in a bind. Joanie doesn’t like asking for help, but I think it’s only fair that we do the same for her!

Joan has been put through more trials and hardships in recent years than is fair for anyone to go through alone - I don’t want to broadcast all her business, but financially supporting others on a limited income, multiple job transitions and a divorce are all just on the shortlist. Joan continuing to live and support herself alone in the Bay Area is untenable - it’s one of the most expensive places in the country and the cost of living is only going up. I’m asking for some help to get Joan out of gentrification hell and across the country to Philadelphia (greatest city in the world baby!) where she can be close to people who care about her and start living with more stability.

Moving is expensive! Joan has been planning this for months and has some money saved, but a uhaul before gas is $3500. And gas is only getting more expensive. Paying for a uhaul means that Joan can carry most of her furniture with her rather than buying new things to furnish a place once she’s moved. It’s basically impossible to save in the tech worker capitol of America unless you’re making a tech worker salary, and the longer she takes to try to pay for everything, the more expensive it’s all going to become. So rather than leaving Joan to try getting these funds together all on her own, I’m asking for anyone who can to please make it easier on her. I’ve made the goal $7000 to cover all moving expenses including gas, food and lodging for the drive to Philadelphia (around $6000) and a rough estimate for the first month of rent in her new home. Whatever we raise together in this gofundme will go directly to Joanie.

So without further ado…let’s get Joanie to Philly!!
