The amazing woman who is always there for everyone, now needs everyone to be there for her!
As many of you probably know Kathy is scheduled for open heart surgery on April 5th. Kathy and Wade have been helping people their entire lives together and never ask for anything in return. We know the last year has been pretty rough for so many of us, but we as Kathy's friends are asking if you can find it in your heart to return a little bit of the love she has been so generous in giving to everyone else, for so long.
Kathy has known she was born with a bicuspid aortic valve for nearly 20 years. She has been seeing a cardiologist annually to monitor for any issues or changes. There was little change from year-to-year until the last 18 months where she was moved to the "severe" aortic stenosis category. Stenosis is a hardening of the valve that has resulted from the additional work that the bicuspid valve has to do over what a normal tricuspid valve has to do. Her aortic valve should open just larger than a quarter, but the opening in now less than 1 centimeter. The force needed to push the blood through this tiny opening has simply caused the valve to wear out!
As if this was not enough, during her angiogram that was performed a few weeks ago, it was discovered that she also has an aortic aneurysm...also due to the same congenital disorder. As such, both the valve replacement and the aortic root replacement/reinforcement must be done through open heart surgery.
Thankfully most of the surgery will be covered by insurance, but there is still a share of the cost that is not. Kathy will be in the hospital for about 10 days and out of work for at least 6 weeks while she recovers. As you know Wade is ever the faithful husband and would never dream of leaving Kathy's side during this time and will also be missing work as well to be there for Kathy.
Neither Wade or Kathy would ever ask anyone for the help we are asking for. So we are hoping we can all come together to lighten their financial burden even a small amount so they can focus on healing and recovering.

As we get closer to knowing when Kathy will be coming home, we will probably be creating a meal train so they don't have the added pressure of cooking for a few days. We will send out the information on that as we have more definition.
