Dave's Birthday Present of Quality Care

I remember last year when everyone worked so hard together and helped Dave and Ken get a wheelchair accessible van so Dave could travel to appointments and wherever he chose to go. It was very humbling to have such a response from so many people! Once again, I am humbled in asking for help once again on Dave's behalf.

As many of you know, Dave was diagnosed with Bulbar ALS. The disease has progressed to the point where Dave needs full time help for daily self care needs, medication, etc. Ken is working full time while taking care of Dave full time. Any time he needs to stop work for longer than 5 min., he has to make up his time. With Dave needing help 24 hours per day, he often has to work till 8:00 PM and/or on weekends. He has been awesome, but it is becoming harder and Ken needs help. Unfortunately, Dave is unable to have nursing care that comes into the home because his insurance will not cover that expense. I have been willing to come once a week from Iowa to help in Dave's care, but Dave and Ken need even more help. The cost of private nursing can cost between $25-$50 per hour. We would like to give Dave quality nursing care as much as possible. Anything that we raise will go to that fund.

Dave's birthday is August 10th and we want to give him this gift of support for his health needs. ALS has taken so much, but it has given him an outpour of love and support from so many caring individuals. Dave's Fight Club needs to reassemble and give our Dave the help he needs. It is frustrating that insurance will not pay for what he needs and that he does not qualify for other assistance that could give him that needed care.
