Let’s Help a Healer Heal: Jennifer Helminski
Donation protected
Jennifer Helminski has spent her life serving others, and now she needs our help.
Jennifer Helminski is an advocate, caregiver, and friend to so many. Prior to her current vocation as a hospital chaplain, Jennifer spent many years passionately engaged in environmental policy advocacy, climate change research, public science education, and zoological and veterinary care.
A recent Masters of Divinity graduate of Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York, Jennifer co-authored their Declaration of Climate Emergency and Climate Mobilization Action Plan, facilitated their 2021 Climate Assembly, and co-chaired the Eco-Justice Caucus. She also served as a worship leader, grief circle facilitator, and food program volunteer at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Harlem.
Jennifer is now a Chaplain Resident in a major NYC hospital system, and is deeply invested in interspiritual ministry and community formation, rooted especially in Judaism, Sufism, and Christianity.
Her accomplishments in activism, service, and scholarship by no means tell of the ways Jennifer shows up for family, friends, and loved ones: in kenotic caregiving, deep emotional and spiritual support, loving presence, and material aid.
In more abundant seasons, she sponsored international families and communities on their way to self-sufficiency, and funded medical care and the construction of water wells and homes for widowed mothers and their children.
In short: Jennifer has been there for us, whether we are those privileged to know her personally, or our wider family of human and non-human kin.
And now it’s time we’re here for her.
We are Jennifer’s friends and loved ones who want to bring your attention to ongoing health concerns that she has been experiencing, giving you the opportunity to contribute to her healing.
In recent years, and especially the past 18 months, these concerns have included the following:
- Cervical dystonia (a rare and painful neurological disorder)
- Chronic hip bursitis
- Chronic fatigue and pain
- Inflammation and edema
- Autoimmune dysfunction
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Iron-deficiency anemia
- Persistent nutrient deficiencies
This is only a partial list of the concerns impacting Jennifer. Even if you know her well, much of this might still surprise you as she sidelines her own suffering to attend to and care for others.
But, as Jennifer loves to tell others: one cannot pour from an empty cup.
Unfortunately, Jennifer’s current medical resources are of little use in diagnosing or treating the array of symptoms she’s experiencing. We’re seeking to raise $12,000 for Jennifer to begin her diagnostic road to recovery and fully pursue her calling to God and humanity.
Please contribute here and share if you feel so moved, and continue reading to see exactly how your funds will be invested in Jennifer’s recovery.
All Contributed Funds Will Go To:
- Medical Botox and trigger point injections for cervical dystonia (each treatment is over $1500 after insurance covers a small portion)
- Ongoing specialist visits and diagnostic testing for autoimmune disease
- Acupuncture and herbal medicine
- Continued treatment for PTSD
- Follow-up functional neurology work via Thrive Neurohealth
- Assessment and treatment for neuroimmune axis disorder at the Metrodora Institute
- Professional coaching for chronic pain from hypermobility
We're deeply grateful for anything you can give.
