Big E –Eric Nelson, your friendly custodian at Bemidji High School needs your help.

Who is Big E? Big E is so much more than your friendly janitor. He is the guy that cares about all of the students (past and present) at BHS. He is there for them when things are good and when things get tough. He is someone they look to for guidance and support. And now we can all try to help him in his time of need.

Big E started losing weight and not feeling well this late summer early fall. He was finally diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer) in November. By then it had metastasized to his lungs, shoulder, and hip. He has had a few extended stays in the hospital due to electrolyte imbalances, gallbladder issues, and impaired kidney function. He has not been able to work for months and will not be working. His shoulder and hip have deteriorated due to the cancer and he has been in a great deal of pain. They do not want him walking as they are afraid that the hip will fracture.

Big E is now trying a stronger chemo drug as the first one they tried has not worked. He gets IV’s 3 times a week for fluids and nutrition as he is not able to eat much of anything. But even in his pain and discomfort he is worried about others and still has his sense of humor!
