Let's Help Build Gwelutshena Community a School

Gwelutshena School is in Nkayi district in Matabeleland North province of Zimbabwe. The children in this area have to walk 22km daily to get to school and back. The community has been struggling to build a school closer to them. They have a school block that needs to be finished. The six teachers at the school stay in an unfinished house.

WHAT WE WANT TO DO

The goal of this fundraiser is to initially raise enough money to finish the block that the parents have started. This would allow students to continue with school even in the rainy season. If we raise more, we will then finish the teacher's house. Depending on what we raise we would also want to build toilets and drill for water.

These are the minimal things that might help the school to be functional. Ideally though, we would want the school to have

WHO AM I?

My name is Freeman Chari. I am the President of Citizens Initiative a 501c charity registered in USA that also operates a Trust by the same name in Zimbabwe. I am a Zimbabwean resident in USA.

WHO IS CITIZENS INITIATIVE?

Citizens Initiative is a charity that was born out of the need to organize collective help for communities in distress. We have handled more than $250K in the past 3 years which has allowed us to build school blocks in Chimanimani, Bikita, Binga ditricts of Zimbabwe. We have also responded to Covid-scourge in the country.

Our work is apolitical and we rely heavily in the cooperation of the locals in getting the work done. We have assurances that community will provide labor to get this project going. At the end we hope that we will be able to provide a decent classrooms that are furnished and fit for use. Like the one below:
