Help Claudia Battle Breast Cancer

Dear Friends,

My name is Sole and, as some of you may know, she is my cousin, Claudia. She is 41 years old and lives in Lima – Peru. She is a physical therapist and has dedicated 20 years of her life to this activity; to take care of others.

In 2019, a doctor asks her to have a breast ultrasound, where he saw a complicated cyst (BIRADS III). With this result, Claudia went to a recognized and specialized on fighting cancer institution. In this place, another doctor took the case and when he saw the results affirmed that there was nothing wrong, and that the previous doctor was mistaken. Trusting this specialized from the cancer institution, she left the case and continued with her normal life.

After this episode, the pandemic came in 2020 and we all were in quarantine for a long time. The health system in Peru was active just for Covid cases and after many months the other medical specialties started to receive patients. During this time, she worked, leaving behind her fear to Covid. By vocation, she was taking care of her patients, either for regular therapies or for Covid recovery.

Suddenly, in 2021 she started feeling strange things happening in her body, such as shoulder pain, swelling of the whole body, she gained 13Kg. in four months when she was eating as usual. The cancer was not letting her body get rid of everything that she should. In June 2022, she went to have some tests again and this time the result was positive for breast cancer. She did an ultrasound and a core biopsy, and she realized it was the same tumor that the first doctor saw in 2019.

She went to her public insurance, and they put her on a waiting list for the surgery. The last doctor told her, it should be “immediate”. Then, she found out that the average time for the wait list is about 5 to 6 months at least, due to the high demand in the hospital. For this reason, and despite the high cost of the surgery, she decided to have it in a private hospital, since she already had wasted long and precious time because of what she was told in 2019.

Now she is recovering from the surgery. She is fighting to overcome cancer. She must start chemotherapy and radiotherapy as soon as possible, and that is why we are raising funds.

Mi nombre es Sole y ella es mi prima hermana, Claudia. Tiene 41 años y vive en Lima – Perú. Es terapista físico y ha dedicado 20 años de su vida al sector salud, cuidando de los demás.

En el 2019, un médico le indicó una ecografía de mama, donde se evidenciaba un quiste complicado BIRADS III. Al tener los resultados fue a una institución especializada y reconocida en lo que es lucha contra el cáncer, siendo atendida por un médico que, al ver los resultados, afirmó que no tenía nada, que el examen anterior estaba equivocado. Ella convencida por el prestigio de la Institución, confió en los nuevos resultados.

Después de este episodio, llegó la pandemia en el 2020 y todos estuvimos mucho tiempo en cuarentena. El sector salud en Perú solo estuvo activo para atender a pacientes Covid y luego de muchos meses recién se empezaron a atender otras especialidades. En este tiempo, ella trabajó con temor. Pero estaba ahí por vocación, atendiendo a sus pacientes ya sea por terapias físicas regulares o por recuperación de secuelas de Covid.

De repente, en 2021, sintió cosas extrañas en su cuerpo, dolores en el hombro izquierdo, hinchazón y subió 13 kilos en 4 meses sin comer de más. El cáncer no le estaba permitiendo eliminar todo lo que debía. Volvió a hacerse chequeos en el mes de junio del 2022 y el resultado esta vez fue positivo a cáncer de mama. Se realizó una ecografía y una biopsia core, siendo el mismo tumor que se evidenció en la ecografía del 2019.

Acudió a su seguro, el cual es estatal y la pusieron en lista de espera para la operación, que por indicación del médico, debía ser “inmediata”. Averiguó el tiempo promedio de espera, dada la alta demanda del hospital, y es de 5 a 6 meses como mínimo. Por ello, a pesar de los altos costos, decidió hacer la operación de manera particular, ya que se había perdido mucho tiempo desde que le dijeron que no tenía nada el año 2019.

Actualmente está en recuperación de la operación. Pero para vencer al cáncer debe empezar las quimioterapias y radioterapias lo más pronto posible, por lo cual estamos haciendo esta recaudación de fondos.

Por ello, agradeceríamos contar con su apoyo para este proceso y así obtener los mejores resultados en esta batalla contra el cáncer.
