Let's help Colt recover from Brain Surgery!

Donation protected

Our dear friend Colt Wymore was injured in a skateboarding accident at the renowned Venice Skate Park on Friday July 15th. After temporarily losing consciousness Colt was able to recount his name to concerned bystanders and friends in a very Colt-like fashion…“I’m Colt fucking Wymore” however, the current president not so much... “Obama,” he stated. That said, friends said he shook it off quickly and seemed ok so he went home and went to sleep.

After experiencing a severe headache the following Saturday /Saturday night, he woke Sunday morning with a black eye and continued symptoms. Working in the medical field himself, Colt recognized signs of interior bleeding and took himself to the ER at UCLA Med. Within minutes of being seen, they were preparing him for emergency surgery to treat a hematoma craniotomy. In simple terms, he had an exterior brain bleed that needed to be drained. The good news was that an exterior brain bleed comes with far less long term risk and complications than an interior brain bleed. Nonetheless, brain surgery is brain surgery and having a large piece of your skull cut out and screwed back in with a large metal plate is a far from an easily digestible or affordable task.

There is no doubt Colt had the best guardian angel in the game looking over him… he came through surgery like a champ. They implanted a metal plate into colt’s skull that will accompany him on all his future adventures. He then spent 48hrs recovering in the ICU. All of his follow up CT scans to date have been promising and doctors feel he should make a full recovery though the healing journey is no small feat.

Colt is Respiratory Therapist, working back to back 12 week Hospital contracts which unfortunately offer no full time benefits/insurance package. He’s been actively working with the Hospital’s social worker and finance department since his release and they have reduced his bill 45%(huge). He’s also exploring any chance of retroactively reinstating his Cobra policy, but even in the event he is able to secure Cobra, he is still looking at a minimum out of pocket expense of nearly $58,000.

Despite his wishes, Colt cannot legally go back to work until August 28th. As those who know Colt know, he is prideful and not one to ask for help but is always the first to lend a helping hand when others are in need. I’m kindly asking for contributions on his behalf to help him get through the next few weeks while off of work in an effort to minimize his stress while his body heals. Any amount of help is appreciated and will be used towards immediate medical expenses(he will need a CT every week), healthy diet and cognitive and physical therapy.
