Let’s help Dennis run dry again!

Hello my name is Youngseok, captain of Social Running Crew - NY, and I am raising money on behalf of our friend and teammate, Dennis.

Last week, we saw one of the most devastating rainfalls in NJ/NY history in the wake of Hurricane Ida. The storm caused localized flash flooding as never experienced before, leaving a trail of destruction in some areas. Unfortunately, one of our beloved team members was hit particularly hard the night of September 1st, when water destroyed his small one bedroom apartment in Palisades Park, New Jersey in a matter of just a couple of minutes. Dennis was working at his computer when he noticed water flowing into his apartment through the kitchen door. He tried to quickly sop up the water, then opened the door to check a drainage pipe outside. Shortly thereafter, water began flowing down the hall to his bedroom, and moments later, it had filled his entire apartment, submerging nearly all of his physical belongings. In a matter of minutes, the water was waist-high and all he could do was stand in the muddy water and watch in terror as everything was being washed away. Suffice to say, the apartment was a total loss.



Dennis has been slowly salvaging what little is left from his apartment, but with everything being contaminated by sewage water, practically all of it had to be thrown away. His losses include many irreplaceable sentimental items such as photographs, books and collectibles, as well as nearly all of his furniture, electronics, and everyday essentials ranging from socks to kitchen utensils. Right now, he is staying at a small hotel in Fort Lee while waiting to find a new apartment. When asked why he didn't stay at a friend's place, his response was that he did not want to burden his friends with his situation.

We all know Dennis as a happy go lucky guy, always full of energy and ready to run with a smile on his face. He has always been an important member of our club and most of all, a good friend. Outside of running, Dennis proudly served his country as a medic in the US Army and recently faced a number of challenges as a student completing the final year of his degree program during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In the wake of this tragedy, we are setting up this fundraiser in the hope that we can bring a little bit of assistance in this time of hardship.
