Hi all,
As many of you may already know, the funniest, kindest, and sweetest soul, Gabby
Ognibene - Trindade, has been diagnosed with a form of high-risk Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Little background for anyone new & seeing this: Gabby is a 28-year-old from Estero, FL.
She currently works in the healthcare industry for Aramark Healthcare+. She and her
soul mate, Leo had a September wedding in Naples, Florida. However, this past
Valentine’s Day, when her and Leo should have been romancing, Gabby was getting a
life changing diagnosis. After a routine primary care appointment sent her to get an
enlarged lymph node evaluated, unexpectedly, three weeks later she received the diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma with bulky mediastinal disease.
Her oncologist has prescribed an aggressive treatment plan that entails at minimum,
high dose chemotherapy every two weeks until late August. However, it isn’t just the
chemo infusions and appointments, it’s the mental anguish (they had to cancel their
long planned honeymoon to Brazil set for March 3rd ), it’s follow up visits, lab visits,
symptom management appointments, trips to the pharmacy/hospitals, special diet,
many missed workdays, wigs/scarves, special products within the home, life-altering
image changes, second opinions, fertility treatments, home care, so much more. Cancer
is a full-time job. There will be many times along this journey when she will no longer be
able to work, or must take long breaks from work, due to the nature of her career.
Luckily, her job is incredibly supportive through all this! But unfortunately, sometimes
with all the added fees and requirements, it just is not enough.
This is a life changing diagnosis. Gabby will lose her hair; this includes her eyebrows
and eyelashes. Wigs/microblading/fake lashes/proper skincare products/scarves/hats
are not covered by insurance. I can assure you Gabby has already reached OVER
$6,500 in medical bills and chemo and the full fertility treatment, egg harvesting, and
embryo storage has not even begun. A wig itself, which as a woman, hair is your
personality, can be as much as $4,000. Preserving her ability to have children, self-
image, and finding ways to still feel like yourself while battling cancer is so important, so
the fertility treatment and eventually wigs will be life changing.
I set the goal at $10,000, but I know you all will work your magic and help Gabby
through this life changing process. Whatever you can do will help!! And she will kill me
for making this. But let us help this beautiful bad-ass girl kick cancers butt and not go
broke doing it!
If you all want to follow along with her journey, she is amazing and will be posting
her own updates and even use it as a blog to help others going through this as well!
