Let's help Gary get through this!

Hello everyone, I am reaching out to all who know Gary and those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting this genuinely good guy. Gary suffered a stroke that required immediate intervention on October 9. Fortunately for Gary, he was provided with medical attention in El Centro then airlifted to UCSD Jacobs Medical Center for further treatment. Gary was admitted and had emergency surgery to relieve the bleeding in his brain. After 8 days, Gary was moved to a rehabilitation treatment center in San Diego. It is unclear how long Gary will spend in the rehab center, but he has a long road ahead of him. He remains in good spirits and enjoys the visits from his wife and kids when they can make the two-hour drive. This veteran and sole provider loves his family and his work. Although he enjoys hard rock music and hockey, he has a tender heart. Please join us in supporting him and his family during this time of tragedy and recovery.

Hello everyone, I hope all are well. An update on our friend Gary.

Gary has been approved to be a leave recipient under the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (VLTP). As many of you know, On October 9, 2023, Gary suffered a major stroke due to blood clots of the Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA stroke). At UCSD Medical Center, Gary was found to have severe intracranial edema, necessitating urgent right decompression hemicraniectomy by a neurosurgical team. After two procedures, Gary was stabilized due to the lifesaving actions taken by the UCSD medical staff. Gary has returned home and is receiving rehabilitation therapy for impaired mobility of his non-dominant left side. He will also receive a cranioplasty in two to three months. Gary is currently unable to return to work at this time. Gary has exhausted all his leave and still has a three to six month road to recovery.

If you would like to donate annual leave to Gary, please fill out form OPM 630a (parts 1, 2, 4a, 4b, 4c, 8, 9, 10a, and 10b). An email with instructions was sent via .gov accounts.

If you still have Use or Lose Hours that you would like to donate, you can still do so although you have until NLT Thursday, December 28, 2023.
