Let’s Help Jen Get the Bed She Deserves!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kerris, and I’m reaching out to help my amazing friend Jen, who is an incredible person and a true inspiration. Jen lives with limb girdle muscular dystrophy and relies on a motorised wheelchair for her mobility. Despite the challenges she faces daily, she works full-time and never lets her disability define her.
Jen is the kind of person who brings sunshine into everyone’s life. She’s selfless, compassionate, and always puts others first. Even when life presents obstacles, Jen never complains, she just keeps moving forward, often underestimating how much she inspires those around her. Despite all she does for others, she feels she isn’t worthy of support. But I know, and everyone who meets her knows, that she absolutely is.
Unfortunately, Jen’s specialised bed, which is essential for her independence and her elderly parents’ ability to help her, has broken. Her parents, both in their 80s, assist her with getting in and out of bed each day. Without a functioning adjustable carers bed, this is becoming increasingly difficult for them.
This bed is more than a comfort for Jen - it’s a necessity. It allows her to adjust her position, raise or lower herself to transfer to a wheelchair, and even sit up or elevate her legs. After 15 years of constant use, the lifting mechanisms are no longer working properly. Repairing one side of the bed will cost over £2,300 with 1 year warranty and several parts have already been replaced. A new bed with 5 years warranty and all the adaptions Jen needs will cost over £4,000.
Disability related equipment is often extremely expensive, and support payments like PIP simply don’t cover costs of these kinds of essential items. Jen deserves this help, not just because of her needs, but because of how much joy and inspiration she brings to everyone around her.
Let’s show her how valued and supported she is by getting her the bed she truly deserves!
Every little bit counts. Whether it’s a donation, sharing this page, or organising a fundraiser.
Thank you for reading Jen’s story. Your kindness will make a real difference, not just to her independence, but to her parents, too.
