Let’s help Launa!

Donation protected

On April 29, my dear cousin Launa Coyne had a traumatic fall.

She was taken by ambulance to St Joseph’s hospital in Estevan, then to Regina where she awaited word if she needed surgery or not.

Eventually she was told that while no surgery was needed, she was going to be stuck in stasis for 6-8 weeks.

Thankfully she was moved from Regina back to our local AMAZING hospital (with better food) in Estevan.

She has a long road ahead of her. She’s going to miss work while she recovers.

Dale has a good job but he’s with a new company currently so he does not qualify for benefits yet so all of the costs for Launa’s care will fall on them. Including the three ambulance rides.

This go fund me is to hopefully raise enough to at least cover extenuating costs such as the three ambulance rides.

We all know that if we were ever found in a precarious situation- Launa would do all she could to help. So let’s help our darling friend and my “sister cousin” (Bahaha we always get a kick of that- as we are cousins but as close as sisters ) and raise some funds to make this process just a little easier for Launa and her family

Here is her story in her words:

On April 29 at 5:05pm I Got home from work. Gathering up my few groceries, work bag, and supper (I was SO pumped to try the Pho soup from Estevan pizza and cuisine) I headed up the steps to go inside.
I honestly don't know if I tripped, or my shoe got caught or what exactly happened, but stumbled across the little landing and fell front first down the steps on the other side.
I believe the side of my leg hit the middle step first as that's where the biggest injury is.
As we all do when we take a tumble after clearing my head as best I could, I started to take inventory. There was a scrape on my forehead, my right hand, my right forearm, my left foot ... and I couldn't move my right leg at all without excruciating pain. There was no way I was able to get up on my own
Dale was away for work and T has left the day prior for school in MJ. Bitty was going nuts in the house.
I called Ts best friend who is like a son to me. He came over right away to help. The pain in my leg was intense. He had to call his dad and brother and then, between the three on them, they were able to lift me up and into a patio chair.
My belongings were scattered all over, and my soup was upside down.
After a few minutes I realized that there was absolutely no way I was going to be able to get into a vehicle to go to ER. I had to call 911
Grateful they were there in just a few minutes.
ER was pretty busy that evening, but Dr.Arthur got to me as soon as he could. It was clear I had done something pretty severe to my leg.
I was still unable to move it and any time the dr or nurse tried it was agony.
I was taken to XRay and then for a CT scan. Dr Arthur sent these tests to an orthopedic surgeon in Regina.
It was decided that the surgeon needed to see me personally to determine whether surgery was required. A brace was put on my leg.
A very long trip in an ambulance got me to the Pasqua at 230am on April 30th.
Because it wasn't known if surgery was needed I was not allowed to drink or eat anything. I was so thirsty.
The nurses got me settled as best they could with the instructions to try to sleep.  Every time I dozed off, I relived the fall, jolting awake and shaking my entire body.
Ultimately it was decided that surgery was not required. After 4 days in Regina I was able to come home to St Joes.
I had somehow managed to break the top of my fibula and bottom of my femur behind my knee. Luckily my knee itself appears nothing more than bruised.
I will remain as immobile as possible, in the hospital, for the next 6-8 weeks.
I cannot walk. I cannot put ANY pressure on my right leg. I cannot do the most basic things.
I have a very long road ahead of me. I do not know when I'll be able to return to work, or drive, or even have a shower.
I am so grateful for the staff at both hospitals, the EMTs, the ones who stepped up to help with Bitty (poor little thing was - and is - so confused), and all my friends and family who have reached out. With all your support I know I'll be able to get through this. I know I will have bad days, but hopefully will have more good days. Thank you all
