Let's help Maya study abroad!

Maya was recently accepted to attend Living Latin in Rome - an intensive Latin experience in Italy this Summer. In two seminar-style meetings every day, participants read and discuss Latin literature and Roman history and culture. To the extent possible, the language of instruction in these seminars is Latin.

Maya is planning on attending graduate school for Library Science and would love to work in a specialized research library or museum library. Specifically, she would like to work with older texts, many of which will be in Latin. This program will help her in providing accurate translations as well as an ability to aid patrons who may be researching texts in Latin. Additionally, it would provide a community of like-minded scholars, supporting her academic and personal growth. The opportunity to travel abroad will provide her with a wider range of cultures and customs, expanding her knowledge and understanding of the world around her.

Along with the daily seminar sessions, the program includes a variety of optional programming designed to build students’ facility in speaking and understanding Latin, as well as lectures on topics relating to Roman history and culture, and visits to historical sites in Rome. The program also features a trip to an important site outside of Rome that is relevant to the program’s theme.

As with many study abroad programs, the costs to attend can be steep. Maya is currently working at the NYPL to cover her college and dorm expenses and could use any extra help possible to make this dream come true. If you feel called to support Maya, she would be so incredibly grateful. Thank you!
