Let's help my uncle beat AML
Donation protected
Dear family, friends and kind strangers,
We are raising funds to cover the medical bills of my uncle, Asen Petrunov (49 years old; football lover and cars fanatic), who was diagnosed with acute leukaemia (AML) back in May 2023.
In order to give him the best chance possible to beat AML, we arranged for him to get treated in Germany at University Hospital of Heidelberg. So far, he received the necessary chemotherapy and stem cell transplant helping him achieve full remission. We have all been thrilled by the excellent care of the medical team at University Hospital of Heidelberg and are truly grateful to all the doctors, nurses and other staff that has been taking care of him. Sadly, if he stayed in Bulgaria, he was not going to make it to this point as he showed resistance to the standard chemotherapy and had to receive an innovative chemotherapy to make him ready for the stem cell transplant which is not available in Bulgaria. Teaching us all the importance of countries investing in life sciences and healthcare!
Following the stem cell transplant in October 2023, he developed acute GVHD which is one of the common side effects after such procedure leading to myriad of complications in his case. Since November 2023, he has been in intensive care (almost bed ridden) trying to beat the acute GVHD but this is a slow and painful process, which we are hoping that he will be able to overcome soon.
His treatment as an international patient in Germany is very expensive and my family already covered all the costs covering the chemotherapy and stem cell transplant. However, the lengthy stay in intensive care due to developing acute GVHD since November 2023 racked up the medical bills making it difficult for one person / family to keep funding the treatment. This made us reach out to friends and the kindness of the greater community for help because small help when spread across a large group of people can make a difference.
Thank you very much for your time in reading this message and we would be forever grateful for your help and support ! Best wishes and stay healthy !
